With the routine change caused by the pandemic of the new coronavirus, some trends in design and interior decoration are becoming increasingly evident for 2021. It is what appears in the color choices of the year 2021 (yellow and gray, chosen by Pantone) and it is also what shows a research conducted by the website Modsy, a North American design and decoration service.
The survey was able to note some interesting conclusions regarding the public’s behavior for this year. In general, people are increasingly giving priority to comfort and contact with nature, while moving away from styles or objects considered to be very “in fashion”. Check out, below, the 6 decoration trends that the platform believes should guide interior design in 2021.
6 Decoration Trends for Interior Design in 2021
1. Search for comfort
With the pandemic, the search for comfort and warmth at home has become essential. For this reason, traditional prints and cozy furniture come out ahead in 2021. Functionality should be one of the biggest concerns going forward.
2. Grandmillennial style
Do you know that “grandma’s house” look? Rooms decorated with antiques, floral wallpaper, upholstered in velvet and many ruffles are within the proposal.
3. Light wood
Good news for fans of Scandinavian decor and rustic style! The light wood should be very present in the interiors design in 2021. The material is a great way to bring warmth to the rooms. It also goes well with neutral decorations in light tones, like white.
4. Vibrant colors on the walls
No white walls! The trend for 2021 is vibrant walls. Stronger tones, such as blue and yellow, should be more present to create a prominent wall or even a whole bright room.
5. Natural materials
The presence of nature became essential in 2020 with the lockdowns. Natural materials such as wood, stones and plants must be increasingly present in interiors design. The elements are a good way to bring texture and depth to the ambients.
6. A return to the 1980’s style
The retro is back! Get ready for sculptural furniture, bold colors, shiny surfaces, glass and brass: the aesthetics of the 1980’s should be back again.
